Títol : Fixing global finance : how to curb financial crises in the 21st century Tipus de document : text imprès Autors : Martin Wolf, Autor Menció d'edició : Expanded and updated ed. Editorial : New Haven : Yale University Press Data de publicació : cop. 2010 Col·lecció : Forum on constructive capitalism Nombre de pàgines : xiii, 250 p. ll. : il. Dimensions : 23 cm ISBN/ISSN/DL : 978-0-300-16393-3 Nota general : Inclou índex i bibliografia Idioma : Anglès (eng) Matèries : Finances internacionals Classificació : 9 Finances internacionals Resum : ince 2008, when Fixing Global Finance was first published, the collapse of the housing and credit bubbles of the 2000s has crippled the world’s economy. In this updated edition, Financial Times columnist Martin Wolf explains how global imbalances helped cause the financial crises now ravaging the U.S. economy and outlines steps for ending this destructive cycle—of which this is the latest and biggest. An expanded conclusion recommends near- and long-term measures to stabilize and protect financial markets in the future. Reviewing global financial crises since 1980, Wolf lays bare the links between the microeconomics of finance and the macroeconomics of the balance of payments, demonstrating how the subprime lending crisis in the United States fits into a pattern that includes the economic shocks of 1997, 1998, and early 1999 in Latin America, Russia, and Asia. He explains why the United States became the "borrower and spender of last resort," makes the case that this was an untenable arrangement, and argues that global economic security depends on radical reforms in the international monetary system and the ability of emerging economies to borrow sustainably in domestic currencies.
Sharply and clearly argued, Wolf’s prescription for fixing global finance illustrates why he has been described as "the world's preeminent financial journalist."Permalink : https://bibliotecatriasfargas.cat/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=2 Fixing global finance : how to curb financial crises in the 21st century [text imprès] / Martin Wolf, Autor . - Expanded and updated ed. . - New Haven : Yale University Press, cop. 2010 . - xiii, 250 p. : il. ; 23 cm. - (Forum on constructive capitalism) .

Disponible What they do with your money / Davis, Stephen (2016)
Títol : What they do with your money : How the Financial System fails us and how to fix it Tipus de document : text imprès Autors : Davis, Stephen, Autor ; Lukomnik, Jon, Autor ; Pitt-Watson, David, Autor Editorial : New Haven : Yale University Press Data de publicació : 2016 Nombre de pàgines : 286 p. Dimensions : 21 cm ISBN/ISSN/DL : 978-0-300-19441-8 Nota general : Conté índex i notes Idioma : Anglès (eng) Matèries : Finances -- Aspectes ètics i morals Classificació : 00 Economia Resum : Each year we pay billions in fees to those who run our financial system. The money comes from our bank accounts, our pensions, our borrowing, and often we aren’t told that the money has been taken. These billions may be justified if the finance industry does a good job, but as this book shows, it too often fails us. Financial institutions regularly place their business interests first, charging for advice that does nothing to improve performance, employing short-term buying strategies that are corrosive to building long-term value, and sometimes even concealing both their practices and their investment strategies from investors.
In their previous prizewinning book, The New Capitalists, the authors demonstrated how ordinary people are working together to demand accountability from even the most powerful corporations. Here they explain how a tyranny of errant expertise, naive regulation, and a misreading of economics combine to impose a huge stealth tax on our savings and our economies. More important, the trio lay out an agenda for curtailing the misalignments that allow the financial industry to profit at our expense. With our financial future at stake, this is a book that analysts, economists, policy makers, and anyone with a retirement nest egg can’t afford to ignore.Permalink : https://bibliotecatriasfargas.cat/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3 What they do with your money : How the Financial System fails us and how to fix it [text imprès] / Davis, Stephen, Autor ; Lukomnik, Jon, Autor ; Pitt-Watson, David, Autor . - New Haven : Yale University Press, 2016 . - 286 p. ; 21 cm.

Crisi financera global, 2007-2009
EconomiaClassificació : 00 Economia Resum : An incisive analysis of the state of the global economy and what the future holds. Surrounded by sluggish growth, high rates of unemployment, rising inequality, growing financial instability and increased social tensions, pessimism about our future abounds. Dr. Mohamed A. El-Erian, one of the world's most influential economic thinkers, explains lucidly the realities of the economic choices that we will soon face. The path that the global economy and markets are on is ending. But what comes thereafter is far from predestined. It critically depends on choices that we make as households and companies, and decisions that our political representatives take. The Only Game in Town details how the world is increasingly being shaken, both from above and from below. It illuminates the growing internal contradictions, the constraints that are undermining growth and prosperity, and the radical overhaul in thinking that is required. In the aftermath of the financial crisis, central banks were handed responsibility for the fate of the global economy. Lifting the veil on the inner workings of these powerful and innovative institutions, El-Erian explains why they cannot save us this time around. Laying out a road map for growth, The Only Game in Town shows how and why collaboration between central bankers, policymakers and business leaders is essential. Drawing on insights from behavioral science, economics and finance, this book provides the tools needed to understand the uncertainties that lie ahead and return us to a path of prosperity. Thought provoking and insightful, this book is required reading for investors, policymakers, and anyone interested in the future. Títol : The marginal revolutionaries : How austrian economist fought the war of ideas Tipus de document : text imprès Autors : Wasserman, Janek, Autor Editorial : New Haven : Yale University Press Data de publicació : 2019 Nombre de pàgines : 354 p. Dimensions : 24 cm ISBN/ISSN/DL : 978-0-300-22822-9 Idioma : Anglès (eng) Matèries : Economia Classificació : 01 Ciència econòmica Resum : A group history of the Austrian School of Economics, from the coffeehouses of imperial Vienna to the modern-day Tea Party The Austrian School of Economics-a movement that has had a vast impact on economics, politics, and society, especially among the American right-is poorly understood by supporters and detractors alike. Defining themselves in opposition to the mainstream, economists such as Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich Hayek, and Joseph Schumpeter built the School's international reputation with their work on business cycles and monetary theory. Their focus on individualism-and deep antipathy toward socialism-ultimately won them a devoted audience among the upper echelons of business and government. In this collective biography, Janek Wasserman brings these figures to life, showing that in order to make sense of the Austrians and their continued influence, one must understand the backdrop against which their philosophy was formed-notably, the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and a half-century of war and exile.
