Mercats financers -- HistòriaClassificació : 91 Mercats financers internacionals Resum : This book presents an economic history of international capital mobility in the modern era. It blends narrative and quantitative methods and connects economic outcomes to the underlying political economy of international macroeconomics. The volume demonstrates that the recent globalization can be seen, in part, as the resumption of a liberal world order that had previously been established in the years 1880-1914, but also points out that much is different in terms of its causes and consequences. Bancs -- Política governamentalClassificació : 4 Banca i assegurances Resum : This volume assembles and presents a database on bank regulation in over 150 countries (included also on CD). It offered the first comprehensive cross-country assessment of the impact of bank regulation on the operation of banks, and assesses the validity of the Basel Committee's influential approach to bank regulation. The treatment also provides an empirical evaluation of the historic debate about the proper role of government in the economy by studying bank regulation and analyzes the role of politics in determining regulatory approaches to banking. The data also indicate that restrictions on the entry of banks, government ownership of banks, and restrictions on bank activities hurt banking system performance. The authors find that domestic political factors shape both regulations and their effectiveness. Títol : Islamic finance : law, economics, and practice Tipus de document : text imprès Autors : Mahmoud A. El-Gamal, Autor Editorial : Cambridge : Cambridge University Press Data de publicació : 2006 Nombre de pàgines : xvii, 221 p. ll. : il., gràf. Dimensions : 23 cm ISBN/ISSN/DL : 978-0-521-86414-5 Nota general : Inclou índex i bibliografia Idioma : Anglès (eng) Matèries : Finances -- Aspectes religiosos
Finances -- Països musulmans
Finances internacionalsClassificació : 9 Finances internacionals Resum : This book provides an overview of the practice of Islamic finance and the historical roots that define its modes of operation. The focus of the book is analytical and forward-looking. It shows that Islamic finance exists mainly as a form of rent-seeking legal-arbitrage. In every aspect of finance -- from personal loans to investment banking, and from market structure to corporate governance -- Islamic finance aims to replicate in Islamic forms the substantive functions of contemporary financial instruments, markets, and institutions. By attempting to replicate the substance of contemporary financial practice using pre-modern contract forms, Islamic finance has arguably failed to serve the objectives of Islamic law. This book proposes refocusing Islamic finance on substance rather than form. This approach would entail abandoning the paradigm of "Islamization" of every financial practice. It would also entail reorienting the brand-name of Islamic finance to emphasize issues of community banking, micro-finance, and socially responsible investment. Títol : An Economic theorist's book of tales : essays that entertain the consequences of new assumptions in economic theory Tipus de document : text imprès Autors : George A. Akerlof, Autor Editorial : Cambridge : Cambridge University Press Data de publicació : 1984 Nombre de pàgines : viii, 196 p. ll. : gràf. Dimensions : 23 cm ISBN/ISSN/DL : 978-0-521-26323-8 Nota general : Inclou índex i bibliografia Idioma : Anglès (eng) Matèries : Economia -- Metodologia Classificació : 01 Ciència econòmica Resum : These essays explore what happens when a skilful economist makes unconventional assumptions. Economic theory has traditionally relied upon a tacit and 'classical' set of assumptions that have gradually acquired a life of their own in defining how economists write and how they justify economic models. Similarly, these assumptions have acquired an autonomous character: they guide the way economists think about the world. In consequence, consideration of alternative assumptions has become taboo. These essays are substantively and stylistically novel because they break these taboos and bring new assumptions into economic theory. The papers apply this adventurous approach to a wide range of issues - from insurance markets and trade in underdeveloped countries to unemployment and discrimination. Some of the essays derive the implications for economic markets of costly asymmetric information. Others explore the findings of other social sciences such as anthropology, psychology and sociology.
